Based on the graphic novel by Raymond Briggs.
Jim and Hilda Bloggs are a loving elderly couple who find themselves about to be thrust into World War Three in a play about what might have happened had the bombs dropped in the 1980s when the advice supplied by the government was the "trusty" Protect & Survive booklet with which Jim arms himself. He follows its sage advice to prepare for the looming attack, while Hilda hopes his efforts don't mark the cushions...
Darkly satirical, hilarious, yet deeply moving, "When The Wind Blows" is a powerful exploration of innocence, survival, and the true cost of war.
Performing from Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th of June, including matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday (no evening performance on Sunday), at the Duston Community Centre, ‘When The Wind Blows’ has the following characters:
There are also some very small parts for characters who appear near the start or are only voiceovers, but these are likely to be played by backstage crew - get in touch if you'd like to help backstage.
Audition pieces will be available at the auditions, no need to learn anything. If you wish to be considered but cannot make the date, please get in touch via [email protected]

- Jim Bloggs, male, 60s. Shaped by memories of the Second World War he naively trusts everything the government tells him to do, without really understanding what is happening. Well meaning, loving but slightly stubborn and rather old-fashioned in his attitudes.
- Hilda Bloggs, female, 60s. Similarly innocent and used to relying on Jim to tell her what to do, but houseproud and keen to keep up standards even in the face of war.
